What is entrepreneurship?

Harvard Business School defines entrepreneurship as follows:

At the core of this work is HBS's unique definition of
entrepreneurship: "The pursuit of opportunity without regard to
resources currently controlled." From this perspective,
entrepreneurship is seen as a particular type of managerial behavior,
available to virtually all managers in organizations of all kinds and
sizes.

This definition has no connection to how any practicing entrepreneur
uses the term, and seems designed solely to make people who pay large
sums to HBS's Executive Education programs feel like swashbuckling
entrepreneurs when they are in fact risk averse middle managers.

It reminds me of the time I sat in a room when Jeff Zucker, CEO of NBC
and an employee of NBC since college, lectured a room full of actual
entrepreneurs about what a great entrepreneur he is. Sorry, but until
you've maxed out your credit card and slept on the office floor, you
don't know the first thing about entrepreneurship.
